What to expect.

If you’re new to acupuncture (or if you just want a little refresher), here are some key things to know about your visit:

Beforehand

Think about why you’re coming!  You can have a handful of things you’re hoping to address.  Be ready to provide details.

Eat something!  Acupuncture on an empty stomach can leave you feeling dizzy or light headed.  Have a light snack before you come for treatment.

Wear comfortable clothes.  You’ll be laying down for up to 45 minutes, so wear comfortable clothes that provide easy access to the knees, elbows, and stomach.  If that’s not possible - no problem.  You can remove some clothing and we'll provide linens to make sure you’re well covered.

The visit

Acupuncturists like to know everything that going on with your body (it helps us understand all the factors at play) so be prepared to answer lots of questions. We’ll ask about your digestion, sleep quality, energy level,, pain in the body, emotions, and eating habits.

Needles. Acupuncture needles are super thin, so the application may feel like a small prick, or sometimes nothing at all. Some people are more sensitive than others, so your feedback is important. Patients often feel a dull, heavy, or aching sensation upon insertion (we like that!). An overall state of relaxation during the treatment is common. Enjoy.

After you leave

Take it easy! In the hours following your treatment, avoid intense workouts, limit your alcohol intake, and of course, drink lots of water. Return to your regular exercise routine the following day.

It can take a few hours or even a few days for a treatment to fully set in., so keep a note of how you feel in the days following your treatment. Be sure to share feedback with your practitioner.

Consider coming back every 1, 2, or 4 weeks, depending on your specific treatment plan. Eventually, a seasonal “tune up” may be all you need!

How does acupuncture work?

Modern acupuncture is a marriage between a two thousand year old eastern tradition and western medical science.
